Zapora Smardzewice is a charming place surrounded by forest. Initially, just behind the dam, there is a vast reservoir, which turns into a wide river after the barrage. Good access from all sides. Many species both on the water, in the rushes and on shrubs and trees on the banks. You can see many species of birds there, especially in winter. For example Smergo maggiore, Moretta, Quattrocchi, Tuffetto, Cormorano, Airone cenerino, Airone bianco maggiore, Oca selvatica, Moriglione, Fistione turco, Codone, Beccaccino, Cigno minore, Cigno reale, Canapiglia, Fischione, Gabbiano reale nordico andFolaga. There is a chance for: Moretta grigia, Oca canadese and Fistione turco.
On trees and shrubs on the banks you can see Scricciolo, Ciuffolotto, Cinciallegra, Regolo, Rampichino alpestre and Picchio rosso maggiore. I haven't seen it personally, but I know from reports that Aquila di mare has been seen here. The best birding period to visit the area is winter and early spring.

Polski: Urokliwe miejsce otoczon lasem. Początkowo tuż za zaporą rozległy zbiornik, który za stopniem wodnym przechedzi w szeroką rzekę. Dobry dostęp z każdej strony. Dużo gatunków zarówno na wodzie, w szuwarach jak i na nadbrzeżnych krzewach i drzewach. Spotkamy tam sporo gatunków ptaków, w szczególności zimą: Smergo maggiore, Moretta, Quattrocchi, Tuffetto, Cormorano, Airone cenerino, Airone bianco maggiore, Oca selvatica, Moriglione, Codone, Cigno minore, Cigno reale Oca canadese, Canapiglia, Fischione, Gabbiano reale nordico, Germano reale, Folaga. Zdarzają się Fistione turco, Oca canadese, Moretta grigia.
Na przybrzeżnych drzewach i krzewach można zaobserwować między innymi: Scricciolo, Ciuffolotto, Cinciallegra, Regolo, Rampichino alpestre, Picchio rosso maggiore. Osobiście nie zaobserwowałem ale z relacji wiem, że widywany jest Aquila di mare. Najlepszy okres obserwacji dla tego miejsca to zima i wczesna wiosna.

Accesso
Parking places on both the eastern and western sides of the dam. You can explore the area on foot. On the western side, you can walk along the wide paved road along the dam or go down the steps located in the very center of the dam. On the eastern side, access is via a forest road. You can also go by car, but I recommend leaving the vehicle in the parking lot by the main road.

Polski: Miejsca parkingowe zarówno po wschodniej jak i zachodniej stronie zapory. Po obszarze obserwacji przemieszczamy się pieszo. Po stronie zachodniej można iść szeroką drogą utwardzoną wzdłuż zapory lub zejść schodkami znajdującymi się na samym środku zapory. Po stronie wschodniej dojście leśną drogą, można również przejechać autem, jednak pojazd proponuję pozostawić na parkingu przy drodze głównej.
