During the spring many waterbirds breed in the Ruda Fishponds Grebes such as Tuffetto, Svasso maggiore and Svasso collorosso. During migration many ducks can be seen, most interesting: Codone, Mestolone, Canapiglia, Marzaiola and Alzavola, and sometimes others. Martin pescatore can be seen every time on the river flowing through the complex. In the reeds you can hear and see Basettino, Cannareccione, Pendolino, Cannaiola and various other species of warblers. In the sky raptors such as Aquila di mare, Poiana, Sparviere and Astore. Various songbird species live in the nearby forest as well. During the migration plenty of shorebirds stop by. Pantana, Piro piro boschereccio, Beccaccino, Combattente, Piro piro culbianco and Piro piro piccolo being the most common ones.

One small parking spot behind the bridge on the river. Click on the P in the map for directions. Don't wander of the paths as it's a privately owned area. The area can only be visited on foot. The circular route indicated on the map is about 5 km.
