Descrizione
The Ahuriri Estuary Walk is a 4 km loop trail with a mix of gravel paths, asphalt, and boardwalks. Over 70 species of resident and migratory waterbirds use the Ahuriri Estuary as a feeding and resting ground. Interpretive signs along the way offer insights into the estuary’s ecology. Birds you can observe include Royal Spoonbill, Bar-tailed Godwit, Pied Stilt, Sacred Kingfisher, Australian Shoveler, Paradise Shelduck, Australasian Swamphen, South Island Oystercatcher, Variable Oystercatcher, New Zealand Dotterel, Swamp Harrier and Caspian Tern.

The Ahuriri Estuary is located on the northern outskirts of Napier. The walk begins near Humber Street, where you’ll find a carpark and public toilets. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. Dogs aren’t permitted, to protect the delicate wildlife habitat.
