Park Lingezegen is a new landscape park between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen, which also includes some beautiful nature reserves. Waterrijk West, together with Waterrijk Oost (also described on Birdingplaces), is one of the best places to watch birds in Park Lingezegen. The mix of open ponds, ditches, mudflats and reed beds in Waterrijk West attracts many birds, especially waders, herons, ducks and reed birds. The reed marsh is crisscrossed by numerous walking paths and wooden boardwalks with viewing platforms, bridges and a viewing hill. Ideal for finding reed birds such as Pettazzurro, Forapaglie comune, Basettino, Cannaiola and Migliarino di palude. And also ideal for bird photography.
During spring and autumn migration, Waterrijk West is popular with waders. You can encounter Combattente, Pittima reale, Avocetta, Chiurlo maggiore, Chiurlo piccolo, Corriere grosso, Piro piro boschereccio, Totano moro, Pantana, Pettegola, Piro piro piccolo, Piro piro culbianco, Beccaccino, Frullino and Piovanello pancianera. Rarities that have turned up here in recent years include Cavaliere d'Italia, Piovanello maggiore, Gambecchio nano, Piovanello pettorale, Mignattaio and Voltolino. In autumn you can sometimes find large groups of Beccaccino. The Tarabuso is also regularly observed.

Nederlands: Park Lingezegen is een nieuw landschapspark tussen Arnhem en Nijmegen waarin ook enkele mooie nieuwe natuurgebieden zijn aangelegd. Waterrijk West is een van die nieuwe natuurgebieden en een van de beste plekken om vogels te kijken in Park Lingezegen. De mix van open plassen, sloten, slikrandjes en rietvelden in Waterrijk West trekt heel veel vogels aan, met name steltlopers, reigers, eenden en rietvogels. Wat opvalt is dat het rietmoeras wordt doorkruist door talloze wandelpaden en houten vlonderpaden met uitkijkplateaus, bruggetjes en een uitzichtbult. Ideaal om rietvogels als Pettazzurro, Forapaglie comune, Basettino, Cannaiola en Migliarino di palude te vinden. En ook ideaal voor vogelfotografie.
Tijdens de vogeltrek in voor- en najaar is Waterrijk West populair bij steltlopers. Je kunt hier Combattente, Pittima reale, Avocetta, Chiurlo maggiore, Chiurlo piccolo, Corriere grosso, Piro piro boschereccio, Totano moro, Pantana, Pettegola, Piro piro piccolo, Piro piro culbianco, Beccaccino, Frullino en Piovanello pancianera tegenkomen. Zeldzaamheden die hier de afgelopen jaren zijn opgedoken zijn onder meer Cavaliere d'Italia, Piovanello maggiore, Gambecchio nano, Piovanello pettorale, Mignattaio en Voltolino. In het najaar kun je soms grote groepen Beccaccino vinden. Ook de Tarabuso wordt regelmatig waargenomen.

Waterrijk West is located between the city of Arnhem and the town of Elst on the west side of the A325 motorway, wedged between the river Linge and the lakes of the Rijkerswoerdse Plassen. The area is easily accessible by public transport. The bus stop ‘Park Lingezegen, Elst’ (see (1) on the map) is located right next to the area. With bus line 14 you can get there from Arnhem Central Station within half an hour and from Nijmegen Central Station in about 40 minutes. Waterrijk West is also easily accessible by bike. From Arnhem Central Station it is about 7 km by bike. Even closer is Arnhem-zuid Station from where it is about 2.5 km on foot/by bike to Waterrijk West. A cycle path (Waterrijksepad) runs through the heart of Waterrijk West, so you can explore part of the area by bike.
If you come by your own transport, the best parking space is on the south side of Waterrijk West (address: 1e Weteringsewal, Elst). Press p on the map for directions. From that parking lot you can make a nice circular walk of about 3.5 km through the entire area. This walk is shown on the map.
A visit to Waterrijk West can easily be combined with a visit to Waterrijk Oost (also described on Birdingplaces) which is located on the other side of the A325 motorway and which you can reach quite quickly via a bridge over the motorway.

Nederlands: Waterrijk West ligt tussen Arnhem en Elst aan de westzijde van de A325, ingeklemd tussen de Linge en Rijkerswoerdse plassen. Het gebied is gemakkelijk bereikbaar per openbaar vervoer. De bushalte ‘Park Lingezegen, Elst’ (zie de (1) op de kaart), ligt direct naast het gebied. Met buslijn 14 ben je er vanuit Station Arnhem Centraal binnen een half uur en vanuit Station Nijmegen Centraal in ongeveer 40 minuten. Ook met de fiets is Waterrijk West uitstekend bereikbaar. Vanuit Station Arnhem Centraal is het ongeveer 7 km fietsen. Nog dichterbij ligt Station Arnhem-zuid van waaruit het ongeveer 2,5 km lopen/fietsen is naar Waterrijk West. Door het hart van Waterrijk West loopt een fietspad (Waterrijksepad) dus je kunt het gebied deels met de fiets prima verkennen.
Kom je met eigen vervoer dan is de beste parkeerplaats die aan de zuidkant van Waterrijk West (adres: 1e Weteringsewal, Elst). Druk op Pin de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vanuit de parkeerplaats kun je een mooie rondwandeling van ongeveer 3,5 km door het hele gebied maken. Deze wandeling is weergegeven op de kaart.
Een bezoek aan Waterrijk West is gemakkelijk te combineren met een bezoek aan Waterrijk Oost (ook beschreven op Birdingplaces) dat aan de andere kant van de snelweg A325 ligt en waar je via een brug over de snelweg vrij snel kunt komen.
