At the North Sea beach of Strandpaal 5, a deep sea channel cuts into the beach underwater. As a result, seabirds come relatively close to the coast here, making Strandpaal 5 the best place on the island for seabird watching. Another advantage is that the beach here is not wide, so the birds are closer than on many other beaches on Schiermonnikoog. Because the water immediately becomes deep, it is an attractive spot for many bird species. There are high dunes behind the beach and you can nestle yourself on the top of the dunes with your telescope for the best view of the seabird migration. Birds that you can see at sea and on the beach include Edredone, Orchetto marino, Smergo minore, Piovanello tridattilo, Gabbiano tridattilo, Mugnaiaccio, Zafferano, Gabbiano reale nordico, Beccapesci, Labbo, Uria, Gazza marina, Strolaga minore and Sula.

Nederlands: Bij het Noordzee-strand van Strandpaal 5 snijdt onder water een diepe zeegeul in op het strand. Het water wordt dus meteen diep, wat aantrekkelijk is voor veel vogelsoorten. Daardoor komen zeevogels hier relatief dicht bij de kust en is Strandpaal 5 de beste plek op Schiermonnikoog om zeevogels te kijken. Voordeel is ook dat het strand hier niet breed is waardoor de vogels sowieso al dichterbij zitten dan op veel andere stranden op het eiland. Tenslotte liggen er achter het strand ook nog hoge duinen en kun je je met je telescoop mooi nestelen op de top van de duinen voor het beste zicht op de zeevogeltrek. Vogels die je op zee en aan het strand kunt zien zijn onder meer Edredone, Orchetto marino, Smergo minore, Piovanello tridattilo, Gabbiano tridattilo, Mugnaiaccio, Zafferano, Gabbiano reale nordico, Beccapesci, Labbo, Uria, Gazza marina, Strolaga minore en Sula.
