The Slangenburg estate is mainly forest with a few extensive grasslands. It is good forest for the common forest types birds such as Picchio muratore, Rampichino comune, Cincia bigia, Regolo, Fiorrancino, Cinciallegra, Cinciarella, Fringuello, Frosone. In the winter is possible to see Beccaccia. The center of the estate consist of old forest, mainly oak, which attracts five species of woodpecker: Picchio rosso maggiore, Picchio rosso minore, Picchio rosso mezzano, Picchio nero and Picchio verde. Early spring, when the woodpeckers are most vocal, gives the best chances to see all five woodpeckers during a single walk.

Nederlands: Slangenburg is een oud landgoed met oud bos. Leuk voor de gewone bosvogels en vijf soorten spechten. Het landgoed bestaat voornamelijk uit bos met enkele uitgestrekte graslanden. Het is goed voor de gangbare bossoorten zoals Picchio muratore, Rampichino comune, Cincia bigia, Regolo, Fiorrancino, Cinciallegra, , Fringuello, Frosone. In de winter is het mogelijk om Beccaccia te zien. Het centrum van het landgoed bestaat uit oud bos, voornamelijk eiken, dat vijf soorten spechten aantrekt: Picchio rosso maggiore, Picchio rosso minore, Picchio rosso mezzano, Picchio nero en Picchio verde. Het vroege voorjaar, wanneer de spechten het meest vocaal zijn, geeft de beste kansen om alle vijf spechten te zien tijdens een enkele wandeling.

There is a free car park near the castle. The car park itself is also a nice birding spot.
