The Schagerwad nature reserve is a beautiful meadow bird area. In the spring, meadow birds such as Pavoncella, Pittima reale, Pettegola and geese breed in the grasslands. Reed birds such as Cannaiola, Forapaglie comune and Migliarino di palude breed in the reed collars. In the winter you will find ducks and geese such as Fischione, Alzavola, Oca facciabianca and Oca selvatica. During migration you have a chance of seeing Beccaccino, Piro piro culbianco, Tordo sassello, Cesena and Airone bianco maggiore.

Nederlands: Het natuurgebied Schagerwad is een kleinschalig polderlandschap van ongeveer 100 hectare met een hoge waterstand. In het gebied ligt ook een rietveld. Mooi weidevogelgebied met ook ganzen. Het is eigendom en in beheer bij Staatsbosheer. In het voorjaar broeden er weidevogels zoals Pavoncella, Pittima reale, Pettegola en ganzen in de graslanden. In de rietkragen broeden rietvogels zoals Cannaiola, Forapaglie comune en Migliarino di palude. In de winter vind je er eenden en ganzen zoals Fischione, Alzavola, Oca facciabianca en Oca selvatica. In de trektijd heb je kans op Beccaccino, Piro piro culbianco, Tordo sassello, Cesena en Airone bianco maggiore.

Nature reserve Schagerwad is located northeast of Schagen between the Kanaalweg to Kolhorn, the N245, the provincial road to Zand, the Westfriese Dijk and the Wadweg. The area itself is not accessible, but can be seen well from the road and especially from the Westfriese Dijk (dike). The area is not accessible by public transport. There is no official parking lot, but there is limited possibility to park your car along the dike or road. However, the best way to explore the area is by bike. A telescope is not necessary but makes it easier to view meadow birds.

Nederlands: Natuurgebied Schagerwad ligt ten noordoosten van Schagen tussen de Kanaalweg naar Kolhorn, de N245, de provinciale weg naar het Zand, De Westfriese dijk en de Wadweg. Het gebied zelf is niet toegankelijk, maar is vanaf de weg en vooral vanaf de Westfriese dijk goed te overzien. Het gebied is niet bereibaar met openbaar vervoer. Er is geen officiele parkeerplaats, wel beperkte mogelijkheid om auto langs de dijk of weg te parkeren. De beste manier om het gebied te bekijken is per fiets. Telescoop is niet noodzakelijk maar wel fijn.

Het noordelijk deel langs de Westfriese dijk is de beste plek voor weidevogels. Vanaf de dijk goed te zien.
