De Dijken is a new (2021) nature and water storage area. The area has next to hay meadows, also wet meadows with high water levels and some pools. There are also some bushes in the area. The higher situated Dijkweg runs through the middle of the polder, from which there is a good view of a large part of the polder. At the Tuigenweg there is a lookout tower that offers a beautiful view of the area. In recent years, the species diversity in the area has increased more and more.. Birds that you can find there are Oca lombardella, Cuculo, Beccaccia di mare, Chiurlo maggiore, Beccaccino, Cicogna bianca, Cormorano, Spatola, Airone bianco maggiore, Astore, Martin pescatore, Gheppio, Cincia bigia, Cincia alpestre, Capinera, Bigiarella, Sterpazzola, Stiaccino, Saltimpalo, Passera mattugia, Ballerina bianca, Ciuffolotto, Fanello, Cardellino and Lucherino.

Nederlands: De Dijken is een nieuw (2021) natuur- en waterbergingsgebied in Groningen. Het gebied van 200 hectare heeft hooilanden en natte weiden met hoge waterstand en poelen. Er zijn ook enkele bosjes. Midden door de polder loopt de hoger gelegen Dijkweg, waar vanaf er een goed uitzicht is op een groot deel van de polder. Aan de Tuigenweg staat een uitkijktoren die een mooi uitzicht biedt over het gebied. De afgelopen jaren is de soortenrijkdom in het gebied steeds meer toegenomen. Vogels die je hier kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer Oca lombardella, Cuculo, Beccaccia di mare, Chiurlo maggiore, Beccaccino, Cicogna bianca, Cormorano, Spatola, Airone bianco maggiore, Astore, Martin pescatore, Gheppio, Cincia bigia, Cincia alpestre, Capinera, Bigiarella, Sterpazzola, Stiaccino, Saltimpalo, Passera mattugia, Ballerina bianca, Ciuffolotto, Fanello, Cardellino and Lucherino.

Polder De Dijken is located 18 km west of the city of Groningen. The area is accessible via the A7 and the N388. Park on the small parking at the Tuigenweg. Press P on the map for directions. From there you can explore the area on foot and by bicycle. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 3 km. The areas marked 1, 2 and 3 are the most interesting. But because it is still a young area, this can change over the years.

Nederlands: Polder De Dijken ligt 18 km ten westen van de stad Groningen. Te bereiken via de A7 en de N388. Parkeren kan op de kleine parkeerplaats aan de Tuigenweg. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vanaf daar kun je het gebied verkennen te voet of met de fiets. De rondwandeling die is aangegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 3 km. De gebieden die zijn gemarkeerd met 1, 2 en 3 zijn het meest interessant. Maar omdat het nog een jong gebied is kan dat in de loop der jaren nog veranderen.
