Lookout-tower with fine views over the Wadden Sea with most of the time loads of birds. Rather hidden on a pier behind the harbor of Den Oever. The bird watch tower is eight meters high and offers a great view of salt marshes, mud flats and the breeding island of Vogelsand. The observation tower has two floors and information panels (in Dutch) about wading birds. From the tower you have views of different habitats with different types of birds. Just below you there is the salt marsh of Den Oever, right in front of you is the Wadden Sea, on the right the harbor and a little further the island Vogelsand with in spring and summer a large Spatola colony. From the observation tower you can always see wading birds and often seals. In the winter the harbor often sees Smergo minore. On good days the number of birds is sensational and you can see thousands of wading birds at the same time. From Pittima minore to Chiurlo maggiore and from Piovanello pancianera to many other species of waders, ducks and geese. But also for example Zigolo delle nevi (in winter), Gufo di palude and Allodola golagialla are seen here. On the day of the opening in 2018, even the extremely rare Piro piro del Terek was observed.

Nederlands: Uitkijktoren met fraai uitzicht over de Waddenzee met veel vogels. Nogal verstopt op een pier achter de haven van Den Oever. De vogelkijktoren is acht meter hoog en biedt een prachtig uitzicht op kwelders, slikken en het broedeiland Vogelsand. De uitkijktoren heeft twee verdiepingen en informatiepanelen over vogels. Vanaf de toren heb je uitzicht op verschillende leefgebieden met verschillende soorten vogels. Net onder je ligt de kwelder van Den Oever, recht voor je de Waddenzee, rechts de haven en even verder het eiland Vogelsand met in het voorjaar en de zomer een grote Spatola kolonie. Vanaf de uitkijktoren kun je altijd waadvogels en vaak zeehonden zien. In de winter zie je in de haven soms Smergo minore. Op goede dagen is het aantal vogels sensationeel en kun je duizenden vogels tegelijk zien. Van Pittima minore tot Chiurlo maggiore en van Piovanello pancianera tot vele andere soorten steltlopers, eenden en ganzen. Maar ook bijvoorbeeld Zigolo delle nevi (in de winter), Gufo di palude en Allodola golagialla zijn hier te zien. Op de dag van de opening in 2018 werd zelfs de uiterst zeldzame Piro piro del Terek waargenomen.

You can park in the nearby harbour (click on the P on the map to go there directly) and from there it is an easy walk to the observation tower.

A telescope is always preferable when you visit the Wadden Sea. Birds can be far away. On the observation tower there is a (free to use) telescope installed, but the quality is poor. But you can see the Spatola colony with it.

Nederlands: Een telescoop is onontbeerlijk als je de Waddenzee bezoekt. Vogels kunnen ver weg zijn. Op de uitkijktoren staat een (gratis te gebruiken) telescoop, maar de kwaliteit is matig. Je kunt er wel de Spatola kolonie mee zien.
