The Lutterzand has pine forests, shifting sands, juniper thickets, heathlands and the river Dinkel with steeply eroded banks. Lutterzand is a good area for spotting birds such as Picchio rosso mezzano, Picchio rosso minore, Picchio nero, Tottavilla, Balia nera, Ciuffolotto, Crociere comune, Succiacapre and many songbirds. The Dinkel is the habitat of Ballerina gialla and Martin pescatore. The winding river regularly overflows its banks during rainy periods, flooding more than 400 hectares of floodplain grasslands.

Nederlands: Het Lutterzand is een afwisselend natuurgebied van 750 hectare met dennenbossen, stuifzanden, jeneverbesstruwelen, heideveldjes en de rivier de Dinkel met steile afgekalfde oevers. Het Lutterzand is een goed gebied om vogels te zien als Picchio rosso mezzano, Picchio rosso minore, Picchio nero, Tottavilla, Balia nera, Ciuffolotto, Crociere comune, Succiacapre en veel soorten zangvogels. De Dinkel is het leefgebied van de Ballerina gialla en Martin pescatore. Het kronkelende riviertje treedt tijdens regen-periodes regelmatig buiten haar oevers, waardoor meer dan 400 hectare stroomdalgraslanden overstromen.

The Lutterzand nature reserve can be reached via the A1, exit De Lutte, follow the signs to Lutterzand. There are parking spaces on the south side of the area on Lutterzandweg (Paviljoen 't Lutterzand and Restaurant Florilympha) and on the north side of the area on Bentheimerdijk. Click on a P in the map for directions to the relevant parking lot.

Nederlands: Natuurgebied het Lutterzand is bereikbaar via de A1, afslag De Lutte, borden Lutterzand volgen. Er zijn parkeerplaatsen aan de zuidkant van het gebied aan de Lutterzandweg (Paviljoen ’t Lutterzand en Restaurant Florilympha) en aan de noordkant van het gebied aan de Bentheimerdijk. There are several marked hiking trails through the area. The indicated walking routes on the map are 4.5 km and 3 km. You can also combine them both and make it one long walk. Please note: Lutterzand is popular and can be crowded, especially on nice days and weekends. Particularly close to the parking lots and restaurants. If you want more peace and quiet, go early in the day, outside the weekend or do the northern walk, because in this part of Lutterzand it is usually less crowded because there are fewer facilities and no restaurants.

Nederlands: Er lopen diverse gemarkeerde wandelroutes door het gebied. De aangegeven wandelroutes op de kaart zijn 4,5 km en 3 km. Je kunt ze ook beide combineren en er een grote wandeling van maken. Let op: het Lutterzand is populair en zeker op mooie dagen en in het weekend kan er druk zijn. Met name dicht bij de parkeerplaatsen en Horeca. Wil je meer rust, ga dan vroeg op de dag, buiten het weekend of doe de noordelijke wandeling, want in dit deel van het Lutterzand is het meestal minder druk omdat er minder voorzieningen zijn en geen horeca.
