Landgoed Het Buitenland consists of a residential area, herb-rich grassland, water, wide reed beds and shrubs. It has 2 km of paved and unpaved trails. The natural part of the estate is prohibited for dogs, which benefits the diversity of birds and other animals such as insects and mammals. Many different bird species use the estate to forage (Passera Europea, Passera mattugia, Passera scopaiola, Storno, Colombella), to breed (Balestruccio, Forapaglie comune, Salciaiola, Falco di palude, Sterpazzola, Cuculo, Luì grosso, Cutrettola) or to hibernate (Mestolone, Fischione, Alzavola, Tuffetto, Albanella reale, Spioncello, Beccaccino, Beccaccia, Porciglione, Frullino). The estate is accessible daily between sunrise and sunset. Given the many different species, there is something to see all year round on this naturally maintained estate.

Nederlands: Landgoed Het Buitenland is een opengesteld particulier landgoed waar natuur vrij spel heeft en waar rust gevonden kan worden vlakbij de grote stad. Het bestaat uit een woonerf, kruidenrijk grasland, water, brede rietkragen en struweel. Het heeft 2 km verharde en onverharde paden. Het natuurdeel van het landgoed is het hele jaar ingericht als stiltegebied wat de diversiteit van vogels en ook andere dieren zoals insecten en zoogdieren ten goede komt. Het gebied is dan ook verboden voor honden. Veel verschillende vogelsoorten gebruiken het landgoed om te foerageren (Passera Europea, Passera mattugia, Passera scopaiola, Storno, Colombella), te broeden (Balestruccio, Forapaglie comune, Salciaiola, Falco di palude, Sterpazzola, Cuculo, Luì grosso, Cutrettola) of te overwinteren (Mestolone, Fischione, Alzavola, Tuffetto, Albanella reale, Spioncello, Beccaccino, Beccaccia, Porciglione, Frullino). Dagelijks is het landgoed toegankelijk tussen zonsopkomst en zonsondergang. Gezien de vele verschillende soorten is er het gehele jaar wat te zien op dit natuurlijk beheerd landgoed.

The address for navigation is: Landgoed Het Buitenland, Het Buitenland 1, 2995 TP Heerjansdam. But it is best to park at the places indicated on the map. It is often quite a challenge to park. If you come by bicycle, there are several possible entrances. The area can only be explored on foot.

In wet weather, several parts can be slippery, so wear good waterproof shoes. A wooden plank decking runs from the thicket along a the water through the reed. This can also be quite slippery and due to the distance between the planks it is not advisable to step on this decking with heels. Nederlands: Bij nat weer kunnen verschillende stukken glibberig zijn dus trek goede waterdichte schoenen aan. Vanuit het struweel langs een water partij loopt een houten planken vlonder door het riet deze kan ook vrij glad zijn en door de afstand tussen de planken is het niet aan te raden deze vlonder te betreden met hakken. Wanneer je ook liefhebber bent van insecten waaronder libellen en vlinders dan ben je hier ook aan het goede adres.
