The Kampsheide has many different types of habitats come together in one location. In addition, ancient history can be found in the form of a dolmen and several burial mounds. You can easily explore the Kampsheide via walking paths that meander through the area. This 3 km route takes you past different landscapes, a pond, large juniper bushes, hedgerows and forest. If you continue to the dolmen, you can look out over the meadows between Loon and Balloo. Water birds such as Tuffetto, Germano reale and Oca selvatica regularly can be found on the pond. In the thicket of bushes can be found Luì piccolo, Luì grosso, Pettirosso and Capinera. Higher up in the trees you can spot Woodpeckers and Pigeons.

Nederlands: De Kampsheide wordt beschreven als "Drenthe in het klein", omdat de verschillende soorten natuur bijna allemaal samenkomen op één locatie. Daardoor heeft dit kleine gebied toch veel te bieden. Daarnaast is er oude historie te vinden in de vorm van een hunebed en meerdere grafheuvels die onze voorouders hebben aangelegd. Het maakt deel uit van het natuurbeheer van Stichting Het Drentse Landschap en heeft een rijke variëteit aan natuurlijke landschapselementen. Je kunt de Kampsheide goed verkennen via wandelpaden die door het gebied slingeren. Deze route van 3 km brengt je langs de verschillende landschappen, het ven, grote jeneverbosstruiken, houtwallen en bos. Als je doorloopt naar het hunebed kan je uitkijken over de weilanden tussen Loon en Balloo. Op het ven dobberen regelmatig watervogels zoals de Tuffetto, Germano reale of Oca selvatica. In het struweel van de struiken zit Luì piccolo, Luì grosso, Pettirosso en Capinera. Hoger in de bomen zitten spechten en duiven. Weetje: dit is het eerste gebied dat is aangekocht door stichting Het Drentse Landschap.

The area borders the town of Balloo and is easily accessible by car. A dedicated parking lot has been set aside for the Kampsheide, and from there you can walk straight into the area. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. Birdwatchers arriving by bus should get off at the "Weg naar Balloo" stop on Asserstraat and walk a short distance from there. The area is easily explored on foot, and there are plenty of places to sit along the way. The bench by the pond is recommended for peacefully observing the waterfowl. The circular walk shown on the map is approximately 3 km.

Nederlands: Het gebied ligt strak tegen Balloo aan en is goed bereikbaar met de auto. Voor de Kampsheide is een speciale parkeerplaats ingericht en vanaf hier loop je direct het gebied in. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vogelaars die met de bus komen, moeten uitstappen bij halte "Weg naar Balloo" aan de Asserstraat en vanaf daar een stukje lopen. Het gebied is te voet te verkennen en onderweg zijn er voldoende zitgelegenheden. Het bankje bij het ven is een aanrader om de watervogels in alle rust te bekijken. De rondwandeling op de kaart is ongeveer 3 km.
