The Jan Roepesheide is a quiet, beautiful and sloping heath area with various fens and ponds. Also a small forest area. There is quite a bit of reed vegetation around the northern ponds. The southern lakes are completely open. The dune area starts on the north side. Given the location and the diverse landscape, you can encounter all kinds of different bird species here, such as breeding: Culbianco, Saltimpalo, Pispola, Pavoncella, Beccaccia di mare, Oca selvatica, Beccaccia di mare and hunting Gheppio, Falco di palude and Poiana. Also a chance to see Gufo di palude and Succiacapre.

Nederlands: De Jan Roepesheide is een klein heidegebied aan de rand van het duingebied in Hollum op Ameland. Goed te bereiken via de fiets en wandelpaden. Er lopen wandelpaden door het gebied. Een rustig, mooi, en een ligt glooiend heidegebied met diverse vennen en waterplassen. Tevens een klein bosgebiedje. Rondom de noordelijke waterplassen is redelijk wat begroeiing van riet. De zuidelijke waterplassen liggen geheel open. Aan de noordzijde begint het duigebied. Gezien de ligging en het diverse landschap kom je hier allerlei verschillende vogelsoorten tegen, denk aan broedende Culbianco, Saltimpalo, Pispola, Pavoncella, Beccaccia di mare, Oca selvatica, Beccaccia di mare en jagende Gheppio, Falco di palude en Poiana. Tevens een kans op Gufo di palude en Succiacapre.

You can reach the site in various ways. Walking, cycling and by car you have access on the (Northwest side) at the Jan Roepespad at the height of the Engelsmanduin. On the south side, the area can be reached on foot and by bike at the junction Engelsmanhiem / Oosterhiemweg at camping Koudenburg. There are also various access options via hiking trails from the dunes and along the camping Koudenburg en golf course. Please note, the site can only be entered by foot and dogs on a leash. It is not allowed to deviate from the paths.

Nederlands: Je kunt het terrein op diverse manier bereiken. Lopend, fietsend en met de auto heb je aan de (Noordwest zijde) toegang ter hoogte van het Jan Roepespad ter hoogte van het Engelsmanduin. Aan de zuidzijde is het gebied lopend en fietsend te bereiken ter hoogte van de kruising Engelsmanhiem / Oosterhiemweg bij camping Koudenburg. Er zijn daarnaast nog diverse toegangsmogelijkheden te vinden via wandelpaden vanuit de duinen en langs de camping Koudenburg en golfbaan. Let er op, het terrein is alleen per voet te betreden en honden aan de riem. Er mag niet van de paden worden geweken.
