A year and a half ago, the top layer of this grassland was removed, creating a wetland with puddles and marshy areas. In the first year, it was already visited by the Corriere piccolo, which more than lived up to its name as a pioneer. The wetland borders a heathland that is visited in the summer by the Succiacapre, among others. The excavated sand, from which a high mountain of sand has been created, is frequently visited by dozens of Topino that forage above the area. I am very curious to see which flowers and plants will appear this summer. Birds that you can encounter in the area include: Volpoca, Marzaiola, Starna, Cuculo, Succiacapre, Beccaccia di mare, Corriere piccolo, Chiurlo maggiore, Beccaccino, Piro piro piccolo, Pantana, Pettegola, Lodolaio, Rigogolo, Averla piccola, Tottavilla, Topino, Saltimpalo and Zigolo giallo.

Nederlands: Anderhalf jaar geleden is van dit grasland de bovenlaag afgegraven waardoor er een plas/dras gebied is onstaan. Het eerste jaar werd het al bezocht door de Corriere piccolo die zijn naam als pionier meer dan waar maakte. Het natte gebied grenst aan een heidegebied dat zomers onder meer bezocht wordt door de Succiacapre. Het afgegraven zand waarvan een hoge berg zand is onstaan, wordt voor het tweede jaar veelvuldig bezocht door tientallen Topino die foerageren boven het plas/dras gebied. Ik ben ook zeer benieuwd welke bloemen en planten deze zomer zullen verschijnen. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer Volpoca, Marzaiola, Starna, Cuculo, Succiacapre, Beccaccia di mare, Corriere piccolo, Chiurlo maggiore, Beccaccino, Piro piro piccolo, Pantana, Pettegola, Lodolaio, Rigogolo, Averla piccola, Tottavilla, Topino, Saltimpalo en Zigolo giallo.

The Holtweg is located southeast of the town of Denekamp close to the German border. You can park at the Holtweg/Strengeveldweg intersection. Press the P on the map for directions to the parking lot. A nice round trip is on foot via the Holtweg, Vrijdijk and straight through the heathland, where you end up at the Strengeveldweg. A longer walk is possible by continuing on the Vrijdijk via the Zwartkampweg. The total walk shown on the map is approximately 6 km.

Nederlands: De Holtweg ligt ten zuidoosten van Denekamp vlakbij de Duitse grens. Op de kruising Holtweg/Strengeveldweg kun je parkeren. Druk op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplek. Een mooi rondje om te maken is te voet via de Holtweg, Vrijdijk en dwars door het heidegebied waardoor je uitkomt op de Strengeveldweg. Een grotere wandeling is mogelijk door op de Vrijdijk door te lopen via de Zwartkampweg. De totale wandeling die is weergegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 6 km.
