Hof Espelo is an old estate within cycling distance of the cities of Enschede and Hengelo. The estate has a varied landscape with old lanes, hedgerows, fields and meadows and is intersected by two streams: the Leutinkbeek and the Eschbeek. Hof Espelo is surrounded by an old deciduous forest and a long avenue with oaks and beeches cuts through the area. Due to the varied landscape, the bird population is also very varied. From forest birds to birds of open landscapes. Birds that you can encounter include: Pavoncella, Sterpazzola, Allodola, Picchio muratore, Saltimpalo, Zigolo giallo, Cutrettola, Cincia dal ciuffo, Cincia bigia, Pispola and 5 species of woodpeckers.

Nederlands: Hof Espelo is een oud landgoed dat op fiestafstand ligt van Enschede en Hengelo. Het landgoed heeft een gevarieerd landschap met oude lanen, houtwallen, akkers en weilanden en het wordt doorsneden door twee beekjes: de Leutinkbeek en de Eschbeek. Hof Espelo wordt omringt door een oud loofbos en een lange laan met eiken en beuken doorsnijdt het gebied. Er staan op het landgoed nog zeven boerderijen en een voormalig koetshuis. Ook het landhuis wordt nog bewoond. Landschap Overijssel is eigenaar van het 150 hectare grote gebied.
Door het gevarieerde landschap is ook de vogelbevolking heel gevarieerd. Van bosvogels tot vogels van open landschappen. Vogels die je kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer Pavoncella, Sterpazzola, Allodola, Picchio muratore, Saltimpalo, Zigolo giallo, Cutrettola, Cincia dal ciuffo, Cincia bigia, Pispola en 5 soorten spechten.

Hof Espelo is located northwest of Enschede and southeast of Hengelo. You can park in the parking lot on the edge of the area. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From there you can explore the area on foot. There are several marked hiking trails. The circular walk indicated on the map is approximately 6 km. It is easy to shorten or lengthen the route.

Nederlands: Hof Espelo ligt ten noordwesten van Enschede en ten zuidoosten van Hengelo. Je kunt parkeren op de parkeerplaats aan de rand van het gebied. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Van daaruit kun je het gebied te voet verkennen. Er zijn diverse gemarkeerde wandelroutes uitgezet. De rondwandeling die is aangegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 6 km. Het is gemakkelijk om de route in te korten of langer te maken.
