The Kraaiennest is a small nature and recreation area enclosed by the greenhouses of the Westland near the village of De Lier. The southern lake has a breeding island where you can find birds such as Corriere piccolo, Avocetta, Sterna comune, Gabbiano comune and Beccaccia di mare. The lakes are frequently used by waterfowl (ducks and geese) and meadow birds (Pittima reale, Pettegola, Pavoncella) and during the migration period you also have a chance of seeing different types of waders. In the spring, many meadow birds flock to the wet meadow next to the area. Furthermore, the area is full of reed beds where you can find birds like Forapaglie comune, Pettazzurro, Migliarino di palude and with a bit of luck Salciaiola.

Nederlands: Het Kraaiennest is een klein natuur- en recreatiegebied ingesloten door de kassen van het Westland vlakbij het dorp De Lier. Het gebied bestaat uit twee plassen. De zuidelijke plas is ingericht als vogelplas voor de weidevogels, In het midden ligt een broedeiland waar je vogels als Corriere piccolo, Avocetta, Sterna comune, Gabbiano comune en Beccaccia di mare kunt zien. De plassen worden veelvuldig gebruikt door watervogels en weidevogels (Pittima reale, Pettegola, Pavoncella) en in de trektijd heb je ook kans op verschillende soorten steltlopers. In de lente komen veel weidevogels af op het plas-dras weiland naast het gebied. Verder jent het gebied veel rietkragen waar je vogels als Forapaglie comune, Pettazzurro, Migliarino di palude en met wat geluk Salciaiola kunt aantreffen. In de winter veel eenden en ganzen en grote groepen Fischione.

The area has a spacious parking lot on the Van der Houckweg. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can walk around the southern lake, but this route is closed during the breeding season.
