Inlaag 1887 is a strip of low-lying grassland behind the dike near the village of Ellewoutsdijk. Clay was extracted from here in the nineteenth century for the construction of a dike. The deepened area is sheltered between two dikes. In spring and autumn you see many migratory birds here. At high tide, the marshy salty grassland with its ditches and pools is a refuge for waders such as Pettegola, Beccaccia di mare, Chiurlo maggiore, Pittima reale, Corriere grosso and Avocetta. In the spring it is a breeding area for many birds. You can get a nice view of Inlaag 1887 from the dike.

Nederlands: Inlaag 1887 is een strook laaggelegen grasland achter de Westerscheldedijk bij Ellewoutsdijk. Uit de inlaag is in de negentiende eeuw klei gewonnen voor de aanleg van een reservedijk. Het uitgediepte gebied ligt beschut tussen de dijken. In het voor- en najaar zie je hier veel trekvogels. Bij hoogwater is het drassige zilte grasland met zijn sloten en poelen een toevluchtsoord voor steltlopers als Pettegola, Beccaccia di mare, Chiurlo maggiore, Pittima reale, Corriere grosso en Avocetta. In het voorjaar is het een broedgebied voor veel vogels. Je kunt Inlaag 1887 mooi overzien vanaf de Zeedijk.

Inlaag 1887 nature reserve is located on the Western Scheldt near the village of Ellewoutsdijk. The area itself is not accessible to visitors, but you can get a good view of Inlaag 1887 from the dike Zeedijk. Park the car against the dike, south of the village of Ellewoutsdijk or at Fort Ellewoutsdijk. Click on the P on the map for directions to a parking lot.

Nederlands: Natuurgebied Inlaag 1887 ligt aan de Westerschelde bij het dorp Ellewoutsdijk. Het gebied zelf is niet toegankelijk voor bezoekers, maar je kunt Inlaag 1887 wel goed overzien vanaf de Zeedijk. Parkeer de auto tegen de dijk aan, ten zuiden van het dorp Ellewoutsdijk of bij Fort Ellewoutsdijk. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats.
