Wetlands due to peat harvesting. The mosaic of water, reed, swamp groves and grasslands is good for birding.
A mosaic of water, reed, swamp groves and grasslands in the excavated peat. That is De Deelen, in the heart of the province of Friesland. In autumn and winter, thousands of ducks and geese, including Fischione, Oca lombardella, Mestolone and Oca facciabianca come to De Deelen. Rare species such as Mignattino comune, Airone rosso and Falco di palude also live in the area. If you listen carefully, you may be able to hear the Forapaglie macchiettato singing in the spring. Other birds you can see here are Oca selvatica, Spatola, Pettazzurro, Chiurlo maggiore, Germano reale, Moretta, Moriglione, Svasso maggiore, Poiana, Oca canadese, Migliarino di palude and Sterna comune.
Small parking lot available. It is a walking area with some marked paths, Unfortunately also sometimes used by dog walkers. Has a small bird observatory. From the parking to the birdhide is about 1 km.
