The Bargerveen is a 2100 hectare large nature reserve that consists largely of raised bog. The area is characterized by a wide variety of landscapes. Swamp, grassland, heather, forest and water. Bargerveen is one of the largest peat bog remnants in the Netherlands. Here you will find a piece of unearthed high moor, with plant species unique to the Netherlands. The nature reserve consists of 3 sub-areas. In these areas, the peat package has been excavated in various ways, from manual to mechanical. This means you will find all kinds of different habitats. All these different types of nature provide a big variety in birds. Nearly 300 species of birds are found in the area. Of these, 100 to 120 breed annually in the area.
The walking route that is shown on the map is 5 km. The route goes straight through the extensive peat area, heathland, but also along peat puddles with Svasso piccolo, Tuffetto. Among the special birds you can find in the Bargeveen are Gufo di palude, Averla piccola, Aquila di mare, Nibbio reale, Stiaccino, Pettazzurro and Gru. In winter (November-February) Bargerveen is a stronghold for, among others Averla maggiore and Oca granaiola della tundra. But there are many other walks you can do (see the weblinks below).

Nederlands: Een van de mooiste hoogveengebieden van Nederland. Zeer vogelrijk en een van de bolwerken van Averla piccola en andere bijzondere vogels. Het Bargerveen is een 2100 hectare groot natuurgebied dat voor een groot deel uit hoogveen bestaat. Het gebied kenmerkt zich door een grote variatie aan landschappen. Moeras, grasland, heide, bos en water. Het natuurgebied bestaat uit 3 deelgebieden. In deze gebieden is het veenpakket op verschillende manieren afgegraven, van handmatig tot mechanisch. Dit betekent dat je allerlei verschillende leefgebieden aantreft. Al deze verschillende soorten natuur zorgen voor een grote variatie aan vogels. In het gebied worden bijna 300 vogelsoorten aangetroffen. Hiervan broeden er jaarlijks 100 tot 120 in het gebied.
De wandelroute die op de kaart hieronder wordt weergegeven is 5 km. De route gaat dwars door het uitgestrekte veengebied, heide, maar ook langs veenplassen met Svasso piccolo, Tuffetto. Enkele van de bijzondere vogels die je in de Bargeveen kunt vinden zijn Gufo di palude, Averla piccola, Aquila di mare, Nibbio reale, Stiaccino, Pettazzurro en Gru. In de winter (november-februari) is Bargerveen een bolwerk voor oa Averla maggiore en Oca granaiola della tundra. Er zijn nog veel meer wandelingen die u kunt maken (zie onderstaande weblinks).

Accesso
From Zwolle or Groningen via the A28, at Hoogeveen direction Emmen on the A37 which becomes the N37. Leave the highway at exit Zwartemeer. There are different parkingplaces in the area. Our trail starts from the parking on the Laardijk, from where the walking route shown on the map starts (5 km).
For exploring the area on foot wear good waterproof shoes. Cycling is also a good way to explore this big area. There are also many cycling routes in an around Bargerveen. Bargerveen is part of the larger natural area called Veenland.

Nederlands: Vanuit Zwolle of Groningen via de A28, bij Hoogeveen richting Emmen op de A37 die overgaat in de N37. Verlaat de snelweg bij afslag Zwartemeer. Er zijn verschillende parkeerplekken in de buurt. Onze wandelroute start vanaf de parkeerplaats aan de Laardijk, vanwaar de wandelroute op de kaart start (5 km).
Draag goede waterdichte schoenen om de omgeving te voet te verkennen. Fietsen is ook een goede manier om dit grote gebied te verkennen. Er zijn ook veel fietsroutes in en rond Bargerveen. Bargerveen maakt deel uit van het grotere natuurgebied Veenland.
