At the mudflats of Balgzand you can view the birds from relatively close up. That is to say, when the mudflats become exposed with low tide. You then can see many birds that come to look for food, such as Volpoca, Piovanello maggiore, Pittima minore, Avocetta, Chiurlo maggiore, Voltapietre, Piovanello pancianera, Corriere grosso, Piviere dorato and Pivieressa. The Balgzand mudflats extend all the way to the horizon where you can see the island of Texel.

Nederlands: Gemakkelijk toegankelijke plek aan de Waddenzee. De wadplaat van Balgzand ligt pal voor je en hier kun je de vogels dus van relatief dichtbij bekijken. Dat wil zeggen, als de wadplaat droogvalt. Je kijkt dan uit over over een droogvallend wad, waar vele vogels komen zoeken naar voedsel, zoals bergeend, kanoet, rosse grutto, kluut, wulp, steenloper, bonte strandloper, bontbekplevier, goud- en zilverplevier. Het wad van Balgzand loopt helemaal door tot aan de horizon waar je Texel kunt zien liggen.

The Quarantaineweg is located directly north of the Rijkstraatweg N99 (the road from Anna Paulowna to Den Oever) at the eastern shore of the Amstelmeer. Take the parallel road there and turn into the Quarantaineweg at the Peilhuisje Wieringen. Click on the P in the map for directions to a parking space. From the parking lot you can walk back on the Quarantaineweg along the mudflats of Balgzand, but in bad weather or strong wind you can also drive the car on the Quarantaineweg and observe the birds from the car. The place is also easily accessible by public transport: the bus between Den Oever and Anna Paulowna stops here.

Nederlands: De Quarantaineweg ligt direct ten noorden van de Rijkstraatweg N99 ( de weg van Anna Paulowna naar Den Oever) ter hoogte van de oosterlijke oever van het Amstelmeer. Neem daar de parallelweg en sla de Quarantaineweg bij het het Peilhuisje Wieringen in. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplek. De weg voert je dan over de Quarantaineweg naar de parkeerplaats. Het is een beetje een bijzondere omgeving met links de Waddenzee en rechts een kleine camping met vaste stacaravans die pal aan de weg staan. Vanaf de parkeerplaats kun je weer over de Quarantaineweg terug langs het wad van Balgzand lopen, maar je kunt bij slecht weer of harde wind ook met de auto over de Quarantaineweg rijden en vanuit de auto de vogels observeren. De plek is ook goed per openbaar vervoer bereikbaar: de bus tussen Den Oever en Anna Paulowna stopt hier.
