Descrizione
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly Falco di palude but also Albanella pallida (early-mid spring) and Albanella minore (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for Grillaio and Falco cuculo (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, Gruccione and Ghiandaia marina. Calandrella arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Rondine rossiccia, and pipits, including Pispola golarossa. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see Piviere dorato and Pavoncella. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
