Descrizione
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Picchio dorsobianco, Picchio tridattilo, Picchio nero and Picchio rosso mezzano). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Luì verdastro, Pigliamosche pettirosso and locally common Francolino di monte. Allocco degli Urali has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Civetta nana — is also seen more often. Many Re di quaglie and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Locustella fluviatile, Cannaiola di Blyth), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
