In Karura Forest there are more than 200 bird species recorded. Karura Forest offers a pleasant eco-friendly birding opportunities with over 50 km of trails. Birds that can be observed include Ayres Hawk-eagle, the African Crowned Eagle, the Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Narina Trogon, African Wood Owl, Crested Cranes, Sparrows, Doves, Weavers and Vultures.

By driving, in all the entrances to Karura Forest, there are secured parking lots. Exploring the forest is done on foot or you may a hire a bicycle if you want to cycle. Birdwatching is best done while on foot. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates. Forest is open from 6:00 to 18:00. Last entry is at 17:45, gates will be closed at 19:00.

There are animals too in Karura Forest which include; Mount Kenya Guereza Monkey, Lesser Bushbaby, Bushbuck, Bushpig, Porcupine, Duiker, Genet, and Suni. Recently in one of the many camera traps installed in Karura forest, a little interesting carnivore was captured- the African Palm Civet a long, low-slung arboreal carnivore with a muscular, ringed tail longer than a body, strictly active at night
