Descrizione
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Fenicottero, several species of ducks, Folaga, Pavoncella, different species of herons, Falco di palude, Martin pescatore, Pendolino and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Pantana and Cavaliere d'Italia, as well as migratory ducks like Marzaiola and Moretta tabaccata. The site is one of the last places where Anatra marmorizzata breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Pollo sultano can also be seen.
