The lagoon is the 'waterlily lake' mentioned by Gerald Durrell in My Family and Other Animals. However it appeared lifeless on my September visit. The island has 3 beaches, accessible by car, and good scrub and heath habitat favoured by warblers, Strillozzo, Assiolo and Tortora selvatica. A pair of Aquila reale were hunting over the wooded hills on return journey to Roda. Other birds you can enconter are Rondine rossiccia, Rondone maggiore, Rondine montana, Sterpazzolina, Occhiocotto and Bigia grossa.
