The shallow lakes around Wasserschloss Neuhaus are partly used for fish breeding, but offer a reed and water habitat for many bird species. Especially the occurance of 5 heron species attracts a lot of birders: Nitticora, Airone rosso, Tarabusino, Airone bianco maggiore and Airone cenerino.
