Viernheimer Heide is a heathland area with adjacent coniferous and mixed forests. It is particularly characterized by dry grassland and sandy areas in which many rare bird species can be observed, especially in spring and summer. Breeding birds include, for example, Prispolone, Balia nera, Tottavilla, Codirosso, Rigogolo, Averla piccola, Cuculo, Torcicollo, Falco pecchiaiolo, Succiacapre and Upupa. Various species such as Stiaccino and Culbianco can be seen in the area during migration.
