Descrizione
The Blankensee can be overlooked best from a boardwalk near the village of the same name. Close views of Basettino and Cannaiola, with luck also Pendolino, are possible from the boardwalk (no scope needed). Tarabuso is often seen flying out of the reeds near the boardwalk, especially in winter. An occupied Falco pescatore nest can be seen from the boardwalk in summer.
Thousands of ducks and geese are on the lake in winter. Pesciaiola, Smergo maggiore and Quattrocchi give good views. Others are Moriglione, Moretta, Fischione and Canapiglia. Aquila di mare is regularly seen. The most common large gull is Gabbiano reale pontico.
May is the month for Mignattino comune. With luck you can get Mignattino alibianche and Mignattino piombato, too. Other good birds in spring are Svasso piccolo, Codone and big flocks of swallows.
Walking through the village (Verzellino, Cicogna bianca), make sure to have a look for Martin pescatore along the river Nieplitz.
On the walk to the tower in the north you pass the small lake Seechen (diminutive of lake "See"). Chances are good for Quattrocchi, Tuffetto and Svasso collorosso. From the tower you overlook the wetlands of the Ungeheuerwiesen. A breeding Falco pescatore, Pavoncella, Beccaccino and with luck Upupa can be seen. In winter Gru, Piviere dorato and northern geese are typical species. Averla maggiore is regurlarly seen in the open winter landscape.
