Created to increase the department's energy production in 1994, Petit Saut is an artificial lake with a vast submerged forest and a myriad of islands.

Petit Saut is an artificial lake created by man. Canoeing through the forest of dead trees in the middle of the lake allows you to observe a beautiful diversity of woodpeckers and other birds needing cavities to nest. The banks are surrounded by primary forest, allowing the observation of canopy species. The species more or less regularly seen on the site are: Gray-fronted Dove, Mealy Parrot, Red-and-green Macaw, Plumbeous Kite, Common Potoo, Green Oropendola, Ringed Kingfisher, Great Black Hawk, Anhinga, Orange-breasted Falcon, White-winged Parakeet, Red-fan Parrot, White-throated Toucan, Yellow-tufted Woodpecker, Channel-billed Toucan (Ariel), Pink-throated Becard, Red-rumped Cacique, Yellow-rumped Cacique, Russet-crowned Crake, White-winged Swallow, Paradise Jacamar, Black-tailed Trogon, Amazon Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher, Green-and-rufous Kingfisher, Amazonian Motmot, Orange-winged Parrot, Chestnut Woodpecker, Red-legged Honeycreeper, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Golden-olive Woodpecker, White-tailed Trogon, Caica Parrot, Swallow-winged Puffbird, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Gray-breasted Sabrewing, Painted Parakeet, Guianan Red-Cotinga, White-fronted Manakin, White-bearded Manakin, Blue-backed Tanager, Paradise Tanager, Opal-rumped Tanager, Purple Honeycreeper, Green Honeycreeper, Rufescent Tiger-Heron, Black Curassow, Marail Guan, King Vulture, Black-headed Parrot, Squirrel Cuckoo, Amazonian Pygmy-Owl, Waved Woodpecker, Ferruginous-backed Antbird, Black-headed Antbird, Amazonian Grosbeak, Slate-colored Grosbeak, Buff-throated Saltator, Golden-headed Manakin, Double-toothed Kite, Scarlet Macaw, Black-necked Aracari, Green Aracari, Coraya Wren, White-necked Thrush, Red-throated Caracara, Black Hawk-Eagle, Blue-headed Parrot, Blue Dacnis, White Hawk, Neotropic Cormorant, Variegated Tinamou, Black-faced Hawk, Golden-collared Woodpecker, Ringed Woodpecker, Purple-throated Fruitcrow, Slender-billed Kite, Lined Forest-Falcon, Gray Antbird, Thrush-like Antpitta, Striated Heron, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Black-faced Dacnis, Capped Heron, Fasciated Tiger-Heron, Bicolored Hawk and Long-tailed Potoo.

Petit Saut est un lac artificiel crée par l'homme, se balader en canoe dans la foret d'arbres mort au milieu du lac permet d'observer une belle diversité de pics et autres oiseaux ayant besoin de cavités pour nicher. Les berges sont ceinturés par la foret primaire, permettant l'observation d'epèces de canopée.

To get to Petit Saut quickly, there is only one road: from the N1 between Sinnamary and Kourou take the crossroads which indicates the lake, continue the road to the end, where a boat launch is available, if you do not have a canoe you can rent on site from Oumar.
