Tignes sits at an altitude of approximately 2,100 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest ski resorts in Europe. Tignes is primarily a winter sports resort, but many hiking trails all around the town allow the observation of mountain species and migrating birds. For example Nocciolaia, Gipeto, Gracchio corallino, Gracchio alpino, Picchio muraiolo, Sordone, Rondine montana and Aquila reale.

Tignes is located in the French Alps, within the Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Take the road from Bourg-Saint-Maurice. From there it is a 30 km drive up to Tignes. In Tignes are many places to park. The town has several access points to hiking trails. You can find them by picking up a physical map from the tourist office or using the free MapsMe application.
