Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (Canapiglia, Germano reale, Marzaiola, Fischione, Alzavola and so on), Volpoca and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are Oca selvatica and Oca facciabianca. Rarer gooses like Oca lombardella, Oca zamperosee, Oca canadese, Oca collorosso, Oca colombaccio, Oca granaiola della tundra and Oca granaiola della taiga are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are Pettegola, Corriere grosso, Beccaccia di mare, Piviere dorato, Pavoncella, and Combattente. During migration Totano moro, Avocetta, Piovanello pancianera, Gambecchio comune, Gambecchio nano, Piovanello maggiore, Piovanello comune, Chiurlo maggiore and Chiurlo piccolo have been recorded.
