Borreby Mose is a large area with bog and reedbeds. Around the bog are extensive meadows used for grazing. Despite attempts to drain and cultivate, today the site is protected under Natura 2000 and serves as a vital refuge for birds. The reedbeds host breeding Tarabuso, Falco di palude, Basettino, Forapaglie comune, Cannaiola and occasionally rarities like Salciaiola and Cannareccione. The wet meadows, shallow pools and muddy edges attract many waders and meadow-birds like Pittima reale, Combattente, Pavoncella, Pettegola, Beccaccia di mare, Corriere grosso, and Avocetta.
During migration thousands of geese roost in the area, joined by ducks like Codone, Mestolone, Alzavola and Moretta. Winter brings Pesciaiola, Quattrocchi, and Albanella reale. A regular resident is Aquila di mare. Less common birds that visit Borreby Mose include Sterna maggiore and Falaropo beccosottile. Every year rarities turn up in the area, especially during migration. For example Piovanello pettorale and Cicogna nera have been observed.

Borreby Mose is located in south-west Sjælland, just south of the town of Skælskør. Access is straightforward: from Skælskør, head south toward Borreby/Fornetofte. Just past the turnoff to Borreby Gods, you’ll find a parking area with a trail leading through reedbeds to a dike overlooking Skælskør Fjord. This area attracts many birds, including cormorants, swans, Edredone, Smergo minore and a chance on Basettino.
Another parking spot 500 meters further along the road offers good views across the wetland. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking spot.
