The Koppenbergbos is a deciduous forest where you can enjoy woodpeckers such as Picchio rosso maggiore as a common species and the Picchio rosso mezzano as the rarest. The large trees and the low-lying wood are good for Picchio muratore, Rampichino comune and Cincia bigia. The bushes are home to smaller songbirds such as Fiorrancino, Regolo and classics such as Fringuello, Capinera supplemented with Peppola in winter. For several years now, as in many forests in the Flemish Ardennes, there has been the presence of Gufo reale.

Nederlands: Het Koppenbergbos is een hellingbos met als primaire soorten beuken als boomsoort waar je kan genieten van Picchio muratore, Cincia bigia en andere soorten. In dit loofhoutbos kun je spechten als Picchio rosso maggiore zien als algemene soort en ook de Picchio rosso mezzano als de meeste zeldzame. De grote bomen en het middelhout is dan weer goed voor Picchio muratore, Rampichino comune en Cincia bigia. In de struiken zitten de kleinere zangers zoals Fiorrancino, Regolo en de klassiekers zoals Fringuello, Capinera aangevuld met Peppola in de winter. Sinds enkele jaren is er de aanwezigheid zoals in vele bossen in de Vlaamse Ardennen van Gufo reale.

The Koppenbergbos is located just south of Oudenaarde. There is a parking lot at the end of the Maria van der Gheynststraat. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. The circular walk indicated on the map is approximately 4 km.
