The Handzame Broeken area consists of a extensive agricultural area, being mainly pastures, with scattered trees, bushes and willow tree lanes. The Kreekebeek river flows through the area and is a great spot for waterfowl, like Alzavola, Fischione and Mestolone. The surrounding pastures are good for flocks of Pavoncella. In winter, these pastures are part of the hunting grounds for Albanella reale. In winter, area is also good for Cigno selvatico.
The scattered (willow) trees are great for observing Civetta and Colombella. The scattered bushes and fences are a great spot for breeding species, like Saltimpalo and Stiaccino.
