The winter period is the best time to visit the Donkvijver because of the presence of various ducks like Mestolone, Moretta, Fischione, Alzavola and Tuffetto. You can sometimes also find species such as Quattrocchi, Pesciaiola and Smergo maggiore.
The large lake is also a roosting place for seagulls from November to March with species such as Gabbiano comune, Gabbiano reale nordico, Zafferano and Gavina. But also Gabbiano reale and Gabbiano reale pontico can be spotted almost every day. Gabbiano corallino is less common, but can be seen at least once every week.
In the spring you sometimes have a chance of seeing a migratory bird such as Falco pescatore. In the last two years, we also have territories of a Tarabusino.

Nederlands: De Donkvijver is een recreatiemeer dat vooral in de winter interessant is om vogels te kijken. Het is een slaapplaats voor veel soorten meeuwen.
De winterperiode is de beste tijd om de Donkvijver te bezoeken vanwege de aanwezigheid van diverse eenden zoals Mestolone, Moretta, Fischione, Alzavola en ook Tuffetto. Soms kun je ook soorten vinden zoals Quattrocchi, Pesciaiola en Smergo maggiore.
Het grote meer is ook een rustplaats voor meeuwen van november tot maart met soorten zoals Gabbiano comune, Gabbiano reale nordico, Zafferano en Gavina. Maar ook Gabbiano reale en Gabbiano reale pontico zijn bijna elke dag te zien. Gabbiano corallino is minder algemeen, maar kan minstens één keer per week worden gezien.
In het voorjaar heb je soms kans om trekvogels te zien zoals de Falco pescatore. De laatste twee jaar hebben we ook territoria van een Tarabusino.

The Donkvijver is located directly west of Oudenaarde. You have two parking lots. A large one on the public road Donkstraat and a small one on the public road Huttegem. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking. The area is approximately 30 hectares and you can get there on foot or by bicycle. There is also a cafeteria from the water recreation operator. A circular walk around the lake is about 3 km.

Nederlands: De Donkvijver ligt direct ten westen van Oudenaarde. Je hebt twee parkeerplaatsen. Een grote aan de openbare weg Donkstraat en een kleine aan de openbare weg Huttegem. Druk op een P op de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats. Het gebied is ongeveer 30 hectare groot en je kunt er te voet of met de fiets komen. Er is ook een cafetaria van de waterrecreatie-exploitant. De rondwandeling rond het meer is ongeveer 3 km.
