Descrizione
The Leopoldskroner Weiher is a popular destination for tourists and Salzburgians to go for a walk or jogging. There are a few benches around that can be used to rest and watch waterfowl and urban bird species. The lake is home to many native and exotic breeding bird species such as Germano reale, Anatra mandarina, Oca selvatica, Oca canadese, Svasso maggiore and also hosts a population of Quattrocchi.
The southeastern part of the lake is a semi-natural, overgrown area that hosts many bird and fish. In the evening, chances are good for watching Airone cenerino, Airone bianco maggiore, Martin pescatore that regularly hunt for small fish, amphibs and other food sources. During spring and autumn migration the lake is used as a stop-over site for various migratory species before crossing the Alps. Especially after extended rainy periods, birds accumulate and rare species such as Piro piro piccolo, Tarabuso or Nitticora have been spotted there.
West of the lake is a small forest. The Königswäldchen is home to Regolo, Ghiandaia, Picchio rosso maggiore, Allocco and other woodland species.
