The walk starts at the pond of Hilmteich with almost always Germano reale. From the pond you walk up to the beech forest where you can encounter Picchio nero, Picchio rosso maggiore, Picchio muratore, Rampichino alpestre, Balia dal collare and different species of finches and tits. This walk is really interesting and easy for starting bird watchers (and their kids!).

There are no parking spaces in Hilmteich, but you can easily reach this location via tram, and come back via tram too from Mariatrost. The route is 5 km long (one way).
