Descrizione

Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve is a Box-gum grassy woodland that has recorded over 190 bird species. Established in 1994 due to its incredible native floral and faunal diversity, specifically threatened species, it incorporates a fenced enclosure designed to protect native species against invasives such as Foxes and Feral cats.

Bush Stone-Curlew can be seen in a radius around the Woolshed, which is a direct east walk from the carpark at Amy Ackman Street. Hear for Superb Parrot in the Eucalyptus, and you may see them at ditches between the path and the ponds. Look on the Woodland floor to see White-winged Chough , and in the grasslands for Brown Quail and Stubble Quail. Look up at the canopy for Spotted Pardalote, Scarlet Robin and Brown Treecreeper. The ponds are home to a variety of waterbird species, though the Big Dam to the south is home to species such as Pink-eared Duck , Hoary-headed Grebe and White-necked Heron.

On a good day you can expect to find 40 species of bird.

Accesso

The primary carpark is on Amy Ackman Street, Forde, known as Mulligans Flat carpark, though there is also another carpark further south at the Wildbark centre at 25 Rosenberg Street, Throsby. Wildbark describes itself as the gateway to Mulligans Flat, and there is food, exhibitions and tours based here.

The two carpark entrances depends on what you want to see first. For the Big Dam, the Throsby carpark is the best entrance, though for a focus on the Woodland, the Amy Ackman carpark is the best entrance. Click on the P of the map for precise location of the two carparks.

Walking is the best way to see the birds, as being slow will allow you to see more birds. Cycling is also an option, though this may affect your chances of observing canopy birds. The circular walking routes indicated on the map are just suggestions. There are many other trails and shorter walks to make. The northern loop on the map is 11 km, the southern loop 7,5 km.
