Croke Place Wetlands is a urban wetland in the suburb of Evatt, featuring four distinct ponds surrounded by lush, reedy vegetation. The ponds vary in size and depth, creating diverse habitats that support a range of birdlife. Nearby, Ginninderra Creek runs through the landscape, adding to the wetlands’ ecological richness and providing a vital water source that supports both flora and fauna.

Throughout the year, the area attracts various bird species. All year round, you see different duck species (Pacific Black Duck, Grey Teal) and other waterbirds, more commonly the Dusky Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, and Little Pied Cormorant. Possible opportunities to see Tawny Frogmouth, Grey Butcherbird and Silvereye in the tree plantations surrounding the wetland. Smaller birds include Grey Fantail, Yellow-faced Honeyeater, Weebill, Superb Fairywren and Red-browed Finch, and European Goldfinches foraging on the ground. Parrots such as Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Rainbow Lorikeet and Crimson Rosella are also common sights, while the Olive-backed Oriole, Pacific Koel and Sacred Kingfisher, frequent migrants, can be heard or seen throughout various months of the year. Additionally, keep a close eye on the reedy vegetation with numerous sightings of Australian Reed Warbler, Little Grassbird and Golden-headed Cisticola.
