Descrizione

Bibra Lake is a part of the Beeliar Wetlands chain located south of Perth. The Bibra Lake Reserve is dominated by the lake itself, but it also contains a large area of banksia woodland to the north east and several small swamps to the east of the lake. It is an important wildlife refuge and supports numerous waterbirds and bush birds, plus many different species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects. You can make a nice 6 km birdwatching walk around the lake.

Among the regular birds that can be spotted are Pacific Black Duck, Grey Teal, Australian Shelduck, Musk Duck, Australasian Grebe, Eurasian Coot, Silver Gulls, Purple Swamphen, Australian Ibis, White-faced Heron, Rainbow Lorikeet, Little Corella, Australian Ringneck, Red Wattlebird, Willie Wagtail and Australian Raven. But many more, see the birdlist below.

Accesso

Bibra Lake Reserve is located in a suburb of Perth. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates. Bibra Lake is a recreational area. Much of the lake’s foreshore has been converted into a picnic area and regional playground. The eastern shore of the lake is less disturbed and it provides a habitat for many bushbirds and other wildlife.

The “Woodland to Wetland” trail that starts at the Wetland Centre is a short 2,5 km loop walk. There is another circuit trail that runs around the entire lake, stretching for 6 km. Very nice, but note that this is used heavily by joggers, cyclists and walkers alike.
