Description

The Howard Christensen Nature Center has 135 acres of Michigan forest with Norway Spruce Forest, Red Pine plantation, a mature aspen forest, oak forest, Scotch Pine plantation and developing pioneer forest. There are several miles of trails along the woods, old fallow farm field, shrubland, critters, streams, ponds and marshes. There are two outlook towers, a swamp boardwalk, two floating docks and an Interpretive Center.

Access

The Howard Christensen Nature Center is located in Northern Kent County (16190 Red Pine Dr. Kent City). Press P on the map for directions to the car park. There is a $ 3 entrance fee for non-members. Interpretive Center Hours: Mon-Thurs: Closed. Fri – Sun: 11am – 4pm. Hiking all days during daylight hours.

There are many trails to choose from. Trail signs at trail junctions have three different marker codes. Trail names are marked on signs. Each trail also has a unique picture and color code. The circular walk shown on the map is about 4 miles. Note that the reserve is located next to the Rogue River State Game Area, be sure to wear bright colored clothing when visiting during hunting seasons.
