Merkinch is an area of tidal pools and mudflats, reedbeds, ponds, saltmarsh and scrub. Birds seen include Hvinönd, Æðarfugl, all three diver species, Hávella, Flórgoði, Álka, Fossbúi, Strandtittlingur, Barrfinka, Fjallafinka, Pánefur, Engisöngvari, Gjóður and Sparrhaukur.
Merkinch is the NW suburb of Inverness. Follow Thornbush road/Kessock road to the terminus where parking is available. Regular bus service.
