Local nature reserve with a diversity of habitats including open water, reed beds, grassland, pockets of woodland and scrub.
Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve is nationally recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Not bad considering it was once a part of the town’s rubbish tip. Among the birds you can encounter are Síkjasöngvari, Sefsöngvari, Seftittlingur, Skeiðönd, Skúfönd, Rauðhöfðaönd, Blæsöngvari, Hrossagaukur, Tjaldur, Keldusvín and Dverggoði.
Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve is situated near the Blackpool districts of Marton and Mereside, as well as the village of Staining. It is open all day and has free admission. You can explore the site via a series of designated footpaths and bird hides. Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve doesn’t have designated public parking, but you can park on Lawson Road. Alternatively, you can park on East Park Drive. Press P in the map for directions. Public transport: Blackpool Transport line 20.
