The headland is surrounded on 3 sides by the North Sea and is mainly built up but has various small parks and gardens and bowling greens and sea front.
Around the Fish Quay in Hartlepool gulls hang around, especially on the roof. Often joined in winter by Bjartmáfur and Hvítmáfur. In the harbour entrance Æðarfugl, Lómur, Himbrimi and Langvía can often be seen. Sea watching by the lighthouse can produce a large variety of gulls, ducks, auks, terns, skua’s and shearwaters at various times of the year. The rocks along side the promenade are home to Sendlingur, Tjaldur and Tildra that winter in Hartlepool bay.
Hartlepool Headland is a 15 minute drive from the A19 and a 30 minute drive from the A1. There is a car park at the town square and in various streets in the area. Click on the P in the map for directions.
