Former fish ponds form the heart of a wetland where more than 160 bird species have been recorded. Easy to explore with bird hides and viewpoints.
Marais de Damphreux is a wetland of former fish ponds for carp breeding. The ponds form the basis for an extensive wetland that has gradually been created and maintained around them. In 1993, local conservationists, together with representatives of Nos Oiseaux, Pro Natura, the Swiss Ornithological Institute, the OGZ and others, founded the Fondation des Marais de Damphreux with the aim of creating a species-rich zone of reed meadows and small bodies of water. Since then it has become an important resting place for passing birds. Biodiversity has increased sharply on the area of around 50 hectares. 160 bird species and 50 dragonfly species have been recorded. In the surrounding area many Hvítstorkur breed.

A visitor concept has been set up: marked trails, two observation mounds and two hides very popular with ornithologists have been set up. On each of the two large ponds, floating rafts allow waterbirds to rest in peace.
