Located just outside Trelleborg, Stavstensudde is a nice location for shorebirds.
The big uppside with Stavstensudde may not be the amount of waders but how close you get to the birds. From the shelter one can get a very good view.
During migration from mid april to early june, and late july to early october this is a nice site for watching a good variety of shorebirds. For example Tildra, Veimiltíta, Sanderla, Rauðbrystingur, Rúkragi, Efjutíta, Bakkatíta, Lappajaðrakan and Grálóa. Also several pairs of Dvergþerna are breeding.
Rarities that have been seen here are Strandlóa, Hjarðlóa, Vatnastelkur, Hrísastelkur and Rákatíta.
In winter time islandic Stelkur and northern Sandlóa and sometimes Sendlingur can be seen.
If going by bus, take number 1 from Trelleborg train staion to Trelleborg Drivgarnet and walk. Unfortunately its a quite long walk but the last bit you can walk by the sea.
If going by car follow road E6 and turn S towards Fredshög and Stavstensudde.
Note: to get to the site you have to cross a golf course, please be respectful to their game and watch out for balls!
