Description
Sjötorpasjön is a good place to see wetland birds during much of the year. The surroundings (deciduous forests and farmland) are also interesting. Among the breeders are Toppgoði, Hnúðsvanur, Brúnheiðir and in some years Sefþvari,Sefgoði and Kampameisa. Other breeders in the neighbourhood are Svölugleða , Stubbspæta, Skottmeisa and Spésöngvari. During migration periods large flocks of Grágæs , Kanadagæs , Stokkönd and Urtönd stay at the lake, often including the odd duck or goose species.
From the birding tower you may see several raptors, especially Músvákur, Fjallvákur, Svölugleða, Vatnagleða, Gjóður and Haförn.
