Waders sometimes land on cobs in the lake during harsh weather in the autumn migration. At viggeby, hacklboön and Hallstad ängar, there are large areas of deciduous forests. In and around these forests some quite rare birds can be found. Like: Peðgrípur, Hnotbrjótur and Húsaskotta.

Access

There are many places to get a good view of the lake. Some of them are: Hallstad ängar, Rimforsa, Hackelboön, and Viggeby. All of these have good parking spots. In Viggeby there's a new birding platform (built during the winter 2020/2019) next to a small wetland. There's a large network of trails connecting most parts of Järnlunden.
