Description
The Charcas de Erjos or Erjos Ponds are located just south of the village of Erjos. The ponds dry up regularly and so the amount of birds you can see fluctuates as much as the water level. It is a nice walk from the village of Erjos even if there is no water in the ponds. Among the birds you can observe in the area are Hrafn, Músvákur, Sparrhaukur, Kanarífugl, Eyjasöngvari, Sunnumeisa, Þyrnihæna, Turtildúfa, Hjálmsöngvari and Niðsvölungur. If you are lucky you can see Eyjadúfa or Lárdúfa flying over or foraging in the fields. If there is water in the ponds you have also a chance to see Sefhæna, Bleshæna, Gráhegri and sometimes Hrossagaukur and if there is plenty of water ducks can be observed.

Access
The Charcas de Erjos are located just south of the village of Erjos and the area is easy to reach on foot from the village of Erjos. Parking is possible on the big central parking in Erjos. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Cross the road from the parking lot, go down the stairs at the church and follow the path. On the map we have indicated the walking route (2 km one way). Good idea to combine a visit to the ponds with a walk to the Erjos Laurel Forest of Monte del Agua (which starts from the same parking and is described as a separate entry on Birdingplaces), this is the best place on Tenerife to see Eyjadúfa and Lárdúfa.
