Mountainous area in the middle of the Cantabrian Mountains. The landscape is a mosaic of meadows, deciduous forests, rocky areas and shrub areas.
The area of Braña de Mumián is very well preserved and has extense livestock farming. Braña de Mumián is a part of Parque Natural de Somiedo. The European Union designated the park a Special Protection Area for birds. Among the birds you can see here are Snákerna, Gullörn, Býþjór, Skarngammur, Gæsagammur, Bjargfeti and Svartspæta. The surrounding Parque Natural de Somiedo is a stronghold of the Cantabrian brown bear.
